Penaroyal Antiques & Collectibles

Where Timeless Treasures Await…

By Vicki L Bishop

Tucked into the corner of Commercial and Elm Streets and on Crocker’s main drag is one of Pulaski Counties’ cherished treasures: Penaryoal Antiques & Collectibles.

Roy and Penny Peterson originally opened their shop in Richland inside a Victorian house in 2013.  They wanted their antique business to be a mission, but had no idea where God might lead them.  Twelve short years later, they are now located in the town they consider ‘home’: Crocker, and they continue in their daily mission of love and compassion.

On a regular basis, Penaroyal will purchase entire lots—meaning the contents of an entire house or estate.  Carefully, the contents are divided into items that can be sold in their store or given to charity.  Many of their donations go to Shepard’s Pantry in Crocker as well as others in need.

The Peterson’s still enjoy working together every day and sharing their Christian faith.  They love to be there for people to comfort them and share God’s message with those who are struggling.

Roy Peterson still lives in the house that his father and grandfather were born in—which was built in 1893.  Their river farm is located outside of Richland and is also a century farm—having been owned by the same family for over 100 years.

A graduate of Richland High School in 1969, Roy is a life-long farmer and only lived elsewhere when he served in the Air Force for 4 years in the early 1970s.

Penny Wease Peterson was born on Fort Leonard Wood and says she was proud to be an Army brat while growing up.  Her father, Elmer Wease, served in the 101st Airborne and in Vietnam.  She attended Dixon Schools for one year, and Richland for five years.  Penny loved antiques from an early age and talked her mother, Katherine Wease, into opening “A Bit of Everything.”  Later, they opened “Fleas R Us” as a joint venture.

Roy and Penny will be celebrating their 50th anniversary next year.  They have one son, Kenneth, a daughter-in-law Jamie, and four grandchildren.  Family is a huge part of their lives.

In 1980, Roy and Penny joined the Crocker Christian Church where they still attend today.  Roy is an elder, and Penny is the director of “Journey to Bethlehem”, a local annual Christmas production.

Most people do not realize that “Journey to Bethlehem” takes six months to plan and organize and there is a minimum of 125 people who participate.  The production is professional and uplifting and a real Christmas treat.

Recently, Penny has been working with other local shop owners to improve Crocker “one brick at a time.”  Their small group of business owners band together to have small shopping events such as the “Spring Fling,” as well as small event planning.

Stop by Penaroyal Antiques & Collectibles for all your vintage needs!  In addition to period furniture and relics, they have large collections of old magazines, photographs and postcards.  Not really into antiques?   Stop by anyway, Roy and Penny would love to meet you!
