2. Portuguese Point. A scenic panoramic view approximately 400’
above the Gasconade River valley that will not disappoint. Located on the west side of Highway 28 near
the Highway PP junction, Portuguese Point offers one of the most scenic views
in the Ozarks.

4. Fore!
Check out Oak Hills Country Club golf course. This 9-hole course has zoysia grass fairways
offers many tournaments each year. OHCC is a semi-private course which offers a more informal and relaxed atmosphere with
friendly staff and members.
5. Dixon High School basketball homecoming. This event always packs the Dog House. True to its name, homecoming often brings
back many class members, and Kings and Queens from years gone by. Traditionally, there is a chili dinner prior
to the game.
6. Miss Merry Christmas pageant. This tradition also began in the mid-1980’s
and it usually held during deer season, on the same date as the annual pancake
breakfast. There is no shortage of
bling during this event showcasing Dixon’s most beautiful young ladies.
7. The annual Pancake breakfast. Each year the senior class hosts annual
pancake breakfast for the deer hunters on the first day of deer season. Aunt Jemima was a guest at the original
breakfast in the 1950’s which has turned into one of Dixon’s most long running
and endeared traditions.
8. Float the Gasconade River. For more than a century, people have flocked
to our area to float and fish the Gasconade River. This river snakes through Pulaski County with
several public accesses. Local canoe/kayak outfitters are eager to show you the best stretches of the river to float. Floating this
slow moving, clear stream will leave one with the memory of a lifetime--a day
filled with stunning scenic views, swimming and fishing on one of the Ozarks
most beautiful gems. Be sure to spy the many caves
that dot the karst topography along the bluffs.
9. Visit the Amish Community. A short drive northwest of Dixon you can visit a
real Amish Community. These hard working
people grow vegetables, sell eggs and baked goods and have a saw mill. You can purchase most of their goods directly
from their farms or catch them at the Pulaski County Farmer’s market on
Saturdays.
10. Hunting.
Most of the area is private property-which will require permission. The area is known for the abundance of
wildlife with people traveling hundreds of miles annually to hunt our woods for
a variety of species. Fall deer season and
spring turkey season are the two seasons we are most known for.
